Sometimes I can touch or look at food and know it’s cooked, but that’s a small sometimes because I am not a trained chef. Food is an art to me, and there is nothing more disappointing then having your masterpiece ruined because it’s either undercooked or overcooked, and that’s why I went on a mission to find the right meat probe. It was imperative that I made sure I was cooking all my precious bbq/grilled food to the perfect temperature, so like I do with any new product I plan on purchasing I researched, and researched, and researched. I wish I could be an impulse buyer, or just impulsive in life in general, but I am just not wired that way. My spreadsheets have spreadsheets. It’s really not healthy.
After learning everything I felt I could about the various aftermarket, wifi enabled meat probes I settled on the GrillEye Pro Plus. What I liked about this one was that it has spots for 8 probes, offered both wifi and Bluetooth, had an iOS app, and could be recharged with a regular USB charger, and could even be used while charging. This is a new product so finding reviews were difficult, but their previous model had great reviews all over the web which helped give this one the edge. Plus, dollar for dollar, it was one of the more affordable options. I got mine on Amazon, I know that is a shock, for $139.99 and that included two additional meat probes, giving me a total of four.
I broke down the Pros and Cons of this device below.
So you can see there are some great positives, but also some troubling negatives. One of the reasons I specifically looked for a wifi version was so I could be on the couch, or anywhere in my house and be able to get the temp. with just Bluetooth, you basically need to be right next to the grill, which to me defeated the purpose. The wifi cutting out was pretty frustrating, but when it worked, it worked great. Overall, I still think it was a good purchase, and I use it all the time, but if something better comes on the market I would not be opposed to switching. Really, I just think this one has some growing pains, but if they can fix some of the issues through firmware updates than this could be a real winner. Time will tell, and I will be sure to keep this post updated.
