BBQ sauces come in all shapes, sizes, tastes and textures. They can be tangy, smokey, sweet or spicy. When it comes to BBQ sauce, I don’t discriminate, I pretty much like all ranges of flavors, however, I do not like a watery/runny sauce. I like it to have a little texture so that it can stick to my food and I can use it as a dipping sauce for things like fries or fried okra. Now, I say I like all ranges of flavors, but that doesn’t mean I like all sauces, in fact, I am quite particular when it comes to BBQ sauce, so I get very excited when I find a new one that I just love. That brings us to this review of Daigle’s Cajun Sweet Pecan Garlic Sauce.
To start, I love cajun food. There is something about their spice profile that makes my taste buds happy, so when I saw the word ‘Cajun’ on the bottle I was instantly intrigued. I was at a local BBQ store owned by award winning BBQ champions Whiskey Bent BBQ. They just opened up a new location near me, and their sauce and rub selection is impressive. I love that they let you try everything before you decided to buy. I asked about the Daigle’s and they said it’s one of their favorites, so I gave it a try. Normally it takes two or three tastes before I form an opinion, but all it took with this was one. This sauce is awesome! It’s sweet, it’s tangy, it robust, and it has the slightest (and I mean slightest) punch of heat. That heat hits you first, then the sweet, than the tang while the whole time enveloping your mouth with notes of familiar cajun spices and pecan flavor. You can’t really taste a strong garlic flavor, but I am sure that’s part of what is making the sauce taste so robust and balanced.
I bought a bottle and couldn’t wait to cook with it. I smoked up a few racks of ribs and used it as a glaze/BBQ sauce and it was incredible. It makes a great rib finishing sauce because the sweet allows it to adhere to the ribs, giving it that stickiness, but without being overly sweet. The winning taste combo was mixing it with the Kosmos Q Pineapple Heat Rib Glaze. We had some friends over when we made the ribs and the ones with the combo of sauces were gone within minutes.
I have now tried this sauce with chicken, pork and turkey and it was phenomenal with all of them. I haven’t tried it with beef yet, I am not sure how that would go, but I will give it a try soon to see.
If you are looking for a spicy sauce, this will not be for you, but if you like a nice balance between sweet, tangy with just a hint of spice, I highly recommend giving the Daigle’s Cajun Sweet Pecan Garlic Sauce a try. I was just browsing their website and there are some other really interesting things I would like to try. Apparently, they are famous for their sweet and sour sauce, so that’s definitely getting purchased, and knowing how well it paired with the Kosmos rib glaze, I can’t wait to give Daigle’s glazes a try.
Have you ever had Daigle’s Cajun Sweet Pecan Garlic Sauce, or something else from Daigle’s? If so, we would love to hear what you tried, and what you thought/what’s your favorite.
